"The Egg" Showroom, Currey & Company
Project Overview
The Challenge
The project required creating a high-impact architectural destination within a 10,000-square-foot flagship showroom. The primary hurdle was the location: an upper floor of the Merchandise Mart, which meant every component of the 690-square-foot structure had to be designed to fit within the strict dimensions of service elevators. Furthermore, the team faced a rapid two-month construction window and a disciplined $200,000 budget.
Our Solution
To overcome the logistical constraints of the high-rise site, we utilized a modular plywood cellular frame system. These lightweight, interlocking frames were engineered to be loaded into standard elevators and then seamlessly merged together on-site to form the massive elliptical skeleton. The organic form was then wrapped in Duck Cloth, a utilitarian material that created a sophisticated, seamless "skin". To enhance the ethereal quality, LED lighting was embedded into the base, casting an upward glow that makes the entire structure appear to float within the space.
The Outcome
Completed in 2023, "The Egg" has become the definitive focal point of Currey & Company’s Atlanta presence. By marrying modular logistics with soft-goods finishing, the project proved that architectural excellence can be achieved through resourceful materiality and smart engineering. The space continues to serve as a "light and bright" sanctuary for designers to discover curated treasures and terracotta collections.
